Driver of trailer which ploughed through double-parked cars in Malacca arrested

MALACCA: The driver of a trailer that ploughed through more than 20 vehicles double parked along the Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) near the Hang Jebat Stadium two days ago, was arrested yesterday.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said that the trailer driver was arrested at the Salak Tinggi police station around 5.12pm when he came to lodge a report on the accident.

“The suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested. We also impounded the trailer,” he told reporters after a handover of duty ceremony to the new Melaka Tengah deputy police chief at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters, this morning.

He said the case will be referred to the court to obtain a remand order to help in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If found guilty, the offender faces a jail term of not more than five years and a fine not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000.
