Three Africans nabbed, drugs worth RM1m seized

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained three Africans and seized Syabu worth RM1 million after carrying out raids in Negri Sembilan and Selangor.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said in the first raid at a parking lot in Putra Nilai, Negri Sembilan on Tuesday, two Africans aged 22 and 27 were detained at 11.05am with 3.4kg Syabu that was hidden in 40 computer adapter boxes.

“The Modus operandi of the drug traffickers was to import the drugs from abroad using international courier services to avoid being detected by the authorities,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman, here today.

Mohd Mokhtar said police also seized a Myvi car during the raid.

He said in the second raid at Taman Sentosa, Klang on Thursday, police detained an African with 1.4kg of Syabu.

“When the 29-year-old suspect was detained, he was carrying the drugs hidden inside four printer ink cartridge boxes,” he said.

He said all three suspects who were detained did not have valid travel documents and would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Mohd Mokhtar said the success was through a close cooperation with the National Narcotics Control Commission, Ministry of Public Security, People’s Republic of China.

He said in the first three months of the year, police had seized drugs worth RM56.8 million and detained 46,297, including 1,939 foreigners.--BERNAMA
