More than 70,000 foreign nationals committed immigration offences from Jan last year

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 71,356 foreign nationals have committed various immigration offences from Jan 1 last year until March 10 this year, said the Home Ministry.

The ministry, in a written reply to Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (Beruas) said, from the amount, 49,124 were males, 18,149 were females and 4,083 were children.

"We conducted 12,719 operations and 302,950 foreign nationals were screened.

"In relation to the 1.5 Bangladesh workers, the government has decided to stall the intake of foreign workers," the ministry said in its reply to Dewan Rakyat.

Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (Beruas) had asked the Home Ministry to state steps that will be taken to overcome the flooding of more than 4 million illegal immigrants in the country.

He also asked how the government could guarantee the management of another 1.5 million Bangladesh workers that will be taken in to work in Malaysia.
