Drivers for VIPs not exempt from law: Home Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will take action on any road user who breaks the rules, regardless of whether the passenger in the vehicle being driven is the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers or deputy ministers.

Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat assured that the authorities would penalise drivers who break the law, regardless of who the passenger was in the car.

"If the driver breaks the law, summons will be issued to the driver, not the passenger.

"Regardless who the passenger is, if an offense is made, action will be taken. Nobody is above the law," he said in Parliament today.

Masir was responding to a question posed by Teo Kok Seong (DAP-Rasah) who asked whether official vehicles of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, ministers and deputy ministers were subject to summons.
