MAHB spends RM94m for klia2 parking apron repair

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has spent RM94 million to repair aircraft parking apron at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

The Transport Ministry said the parking apron at the terminal was affected by ponding and soil depression and works would continue to be carried out until the surface was stabilised.

It was responding to a question from Hee Loy Sian (PKR-Petaling Jaya Selatan) who wanted to know the status of repair works on the aircraft parking apron and action against contractors responsible for the defects.

The ministry said klia2 was built by contractors based on the designs produced by the consultants appointed, which abided by the design requirements during construction, but the defects liability period had expired.

Hence, MAHB is looking into whether the consultants had carried out their responsibilities accordingly in planning and designing the layout by taking into consideration soil depression during earthworks, the ministry said.

“If there was any negligence, MAHB will take action against the consultants based on the terms and conditions of their appointment,” it said. --Bernama
