MARANG: A Petronas tanker truck caught by fire near Kampung Merchang in Jalan Pasir Putih, here, today.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Abdullah Zawawi Mohammed said the tanker’s engine was destroyed following the incident, which happened at 1.20pm.
Abdullah said the empty tanker was heading towards a workshop in Kuala Terengganu from Kerteh for technical inspections.
“The driver was shocked to see smoke coming from the vehicle’s engine and stopped the vehicle at the side of the road,” he said.
Abdullah said the station received a distress call about the fire at 1.25pm.
“The team put out the fire at 1.54pm,” he said, adding that the 35-year-old driver escaped unhurt.
He said his men were investigating the cause of the incident.
