Rembau police nab drug smugglers during roadblock [VIDEO]

REMBAU: The Rembau narcotics criminal investigation department (NCID) arrested two men and seized 1.35kg heroin at a roadblock on Thursday.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ibrahim Sharif said NCID and the traffic police division had set up a roadblock at KM14 Jalan Seremban – Tampin following a tip-off.

“About 1am, we intercepted a black Proton Iswara. After inspection, police found three transparent packets containing white powder, believed to be heroin, below the spare tyre board.

“Besides the RM30,000 worth of drugs, we also confiscated four mobile phones and one weighing scale.

“After the inspection, we arrested the duo, aged 33 and 45, back to the district police headquarters for investigation.

“The two suspects tested positive for drugs. The driver, an electrician, tested positive for opiate while the passenger, an odd-job worker, tested positive for methamphetamine.

“Both suspects did not resist and gave their full cooperation during the operation,” he told a press conference, here, today.

Ibrahim said initial investigation showed that the two suspects, from the same village in Kuala Pilah, were active in the drug trade since November last year.

“The suspects were on their way back to Kuala Pilah after buying the drugs in Kuala Lumpur before the arrest. It was their regular route to return home.

“We believe that the drugs were meant for the Jempol and Kuala Pilah market,” he said.

He said the two suspects who had past criminal and drug records would be remanded until April 27.
