Johor police nab 126 people for drug-related offences

JOHOR BARU : As many as 257 individuals were arrested for various drug-related offences in Op Tapis Khas that was carried out for two days by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN).

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that 330 individuals were checked and screened and 51 of them were detained for supply cases, 50 for drug possession cases and 156 cases of addiction.

"Eighteen suspects were apprehended where they will face action under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for repeated drug related offences.

"Apart from this, police also detained 24 suspects who are wanted in the operation," he said in a statement today (Nov 24). Kamarul Zaman revealed that they also seized 54.99 grammes (g) of the drug syabu, 517.39g of heroin, 75.88g of ganja, 21.90g of erimin 5 pills, 3.63g of ketamine, two yaba pills and about 17.5 litres of ketum water with an estimated value of RM37,376.80.

Kamarul Zaman said that 126 individuals were arrested from between Jan 1 to yesterday (Nov 23) under the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) Special Preventive Measures (LLPK) 1985.

"They will be placed under detention order and ensuing restrictions for two years at the Rehabilitation Center.

"Meanwhile, action was taken against 592 individuals under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952," he said.

According to him, Op Tapis Khas that was carried out periodically was for action to be taken for all drug abuse activities with the focus being on hotspots such as at the fisherman's jetty, People's Housing Project (PPR), known drug addict locations and certain Felda areas.

"For the record, 1,478 arrests for all sorts of drug related offences were made throughout Op Tapis Khas "From Jan 1 until yesterday (Nov 23), the Johor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department managed to arrest 15,307 individuals for various drug related offences and within the same period 4.74 tonnes of drugs were seized.

Throughout the same period, he said that the total seizure of drugs is estimated to be valued at RM33.78 million and various other assets that were seized had an estimated value of RM13.15 million.
