PKR slams Sarawak DAP chairman for making bankrupt accusation

KUCHING: PKR today slammed Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen for making a wild accusation against Batu Kitang proposer Narawi Palayan.

PKR campaign manager Simon Siah said there was an unknown delay in the nomination process but both the proposer and seconder for their candidate Voon Shiak Ni faced no issues with the Election Commission, and the proposer was not a bankrupt.

"We urge Chong to check his facts before making any accusations.

"This can cause damage to the reputation of our proposer and he reserves his right to take any legal action if necessary," he stressed.

To clarify the issue, PKR also presented a bankruptcy search result from the Malaysia Department of Insolvency confirming Narawi's status as 'Not Bankrupt' at a press conference held at the party's election operation centre here.

Yesterday, Chong Chieng Jen claimed that Voon almost had her nomination disqualified.

PKR’s proposer was found to be a bankrupt. That’s why there was a delay in the announcement of the candidates.

"If that had happened, it would have given BN a walkover victory in the seat where past results had shown more support for DAP," Chong was reported as saying.
