Najib regrets actions of certain quarters who 'poison' people's minds

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak regrets the actions of certain quarters who 'poison', incite and influence the people's minds by running down the country and trying to topple a leader through undemocratic means.

The prime minister said what has been achieved by the country is because of the struggle and perseverance of past governments until the era of the National Transformation Policy (NTP).

"I feel sad that former leaders and a statesman are dragged into this. They are willing to undermine their own country and called for foreign intervention from a country which allowed Malaysia to determined its mould and shape," he said when presenting the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) Report 2015 live on RTM tonight.

Najib said he chose to have a big heart and lead the government, still standing tall, looking forward and moving one step forward, for the sake of the country's development plan.

Since taking over as the prime minister, he decided the government should move forward to build a resilient, sustainable and inclusive economy, based on the concept of 1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now.

"Therefore, give the government the opportunity and the time to chart the future according to our plans.

"What is important, we must never be complacent and influenced by negative elements because everything can be destroyed in a blink of an eye."

Najib said in all humility and trust in god (tawakal), he and his deputy (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and members of past governments, could not succeed without the support, backing and understanding of the people.

As such, it is best for the people and the government to work closely together and to have confidence in the commitment of the government's initiatives.

He reminded certain quarters that as a sovereign, independent and lawful country, they cannot get the people to act outside the rule of law and what is enshrined in the constitution.

"This includes making a declaration and referendum which are ill intended and against the law."

Najib said the government does not want to be distracted by things of no benefit and will continue to carry out the trust and mandate to drive Malaysia towards its goals.

"This has been the stand and the commitment of the Barisan Nasional government over the years, by nurturing the seedlings daily until they grow and bear fruits to be enjoyed by the people," he added.
