PKR shoots down DAP offer to quit Batu Kitang

KUCHING: PKR has dismissed DAP's offer to quit its contest for Batu Kitang, saying that the offer was proof that the latter was not serious in running for the seat.

PKR vice president Dr Xavier Jayakumar said while the offer was "appreciated", the party called for voters to pool support for PKR instead.

PKR fielded lawyer Voon Shiak Ni for the Chinese-majority constituency. DAP in a last minute decision, placed Abdul Aziz Isa to go against Voon.

"We appreciate DAP's willingness to withdraw from Batu Kitang, but we hope that our supporters can converge their votes for Voon," said Dr Xavier at a Press conference today.

He said that Voon had a better chance of winning compared to the DAP candidate.

On Tuesday, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said his party would quit Batu Kitang if PKR concedes the original five disputed seats between the two parties - Mulu, Murum, Ngemah, Mambong and Simanggang.
