Man arrested for allegedly insulting Islam in FB post

IPOH: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man in Kamunting, Taiping for uploading a provocative Facebook posting that insulted Islam.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Hanafi said the suspect, hailing from Kampung Stesen, Kuala Kangsar allegedly committed the offence on Sept 7.

The suspect has used a pseudonym when uploading the statements in social media, possibly aimed at sparking racial tension.

His statement prompted Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to order the police to arrest the suspect.

Rahim said Bukit Aman's Classified Crimes Unit nabbed the suspect at his home at 10am yesterday.

"Police have also confiscated three handphones and a pouch bag from him," he said in a statement issued here today.

Rahim said the suspect would be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
