Seven vehicle crash in Tangkak causes massive 10km jam

JASIN: A tour bus with 29 passengers was among seven vehicles involved in a multi-vehicle crash along the Km174 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Tangkak here.

However, no fatalities were recorded in the 10.30am incident, with only three bus passengers suffering minor injuries.

A police spokesman said the incident happened when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, hitting a car in front of him.

"The impact of the collision caused a car in front of the bus, and several other vehicles to rear-end each other," he said.

The accident involved a bus, a trailer, a pickup truck, three cars and a multi-purpose vehicle. All were all headed southbound on the two-lane highway.

The bus was ferrying local tourists to Kukup, Johor.

"The accident caused a massive jam of up to 10 kilometres which lasted several hours," he added.

Jasin district police chief Deputy Superintendent Sampornak Ismail said the bus driver in his 30's was not arrested but had his statement recorded to assist in investigations under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

He said more than 38 people were involved in the accident.

Meanwhile, Hasnizam Uzir, 41, one of drivers of the vehicles involved, said he was travelling to Johor to watch a football match.

“My car was suddenly hit from the back but I didn't panick although I couldn’t exit my car door.

"I had to climb out from my car window as my car door was jammed, but that did not made me panic," said the television personality.

Those injured, were two women and a man, aged between 18 and 40 years old and were rushed to the Tangkak hospital.
