Malacca Utd keeper dies in hospital, a month after being struck by lightning

MALACCA: Marco Stefan Petrovski, the Malacca United reserve goalkeeper who was struck by lightning during training died today after being in critical condition for almost a month.

The 18-year-old's death was confirmed by Malacca United Soccer Association (MUSA) president Datuk Seri Idris Haron this afternoon.

Petrovski, he said, died in hospital about 2pm. A post-mortem would be conducted today.

Petrovski, from Sabah was conducting training drills with his teammates at Padang 10 in Krubong on April when lightning struck the pitch during a heavy downpour.

Defender Muhammad Afiq Azuan was also injured in the incident. Both were rushed to the Malacca Hospital where they were admitted into the Intensive Care Unit.

Afiq was discharged the following day.

Petrovski's parents had last month flown to Malaysia after being informed of their son's condition.

At press time, it is unknown as to what arrangements are being made for Petrovski's burial.
