KUCHING: Another ferry will begin operating tomorrow between Sebuyau and Triso in Sungai Batang Lupar, about 130 km from here.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim who is also Batang Lupar member of parliament today announced the good news for residents around Sebuyau, Beting Maro and Lingga.
The only other ferry which has been operating for three years takes one hour and 20 minutes for a return trip.
"Passengers were forced to wait for one and a half hours if they missed the trip. The situation inconvenienced passengers particularly as the ferry load is limited to 15 cars," she said in a statement here.
She said she had raised the issue with the Sarawak Works director and was last week informed that another ferry would be sent to the area from Sibu.
The Sebuyau-Triso ferry service would shorten travel time between Kuching and Beladin near Betong from five hours to two and a half hours on the Kuching-Beladin route.
