Sarawak polls: 90 police reports received so far

KUCHING: The number of police reports lodged in relation to the 11th state election has increased to 90 reports.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Dev Kumar said the reports were lodged in 24 districts between April 25 and yesterday.

“We have opened up 56 investigation papers and two enquiry papers thus far.

“A total of 17 reports have been referred to other agencies, most of them to the Election Commission,” he said when contacted.

Dev said 74 percent of the cases being investigated are related to vandalism of campaign materials, while other reports are related to displaying campaign materials without permit, theft, defamation, insult and criminal intimidation.

He added 51 cases were being investigated under the Penal Code and five cases would be probed under the Election Offences Act 1954.
