Senior citizen escapes death after being electrocuted during storm

KUALA NERANG: An elderly man nearly lost his life during a storm which damaged about 20 homes across nine villages here, today.

Md Rejab Jusoh, 66, said the incident occurred at about 6.30 pm when he went to a room upstairs in his home to take some clothes, before hearing the sound of the strong winds and a storm.

“After hearing the sound, I prayed the Azan (call to prayer), but before I could finish it, the storm blew off the roof my house, and one of the wires got cut and was exposed to stagnant water on the floor.

“I was then electrocuted and suffered shortness of breath. I tried to crawl up on the bed. For 30 minutes I lied down and tried to calm myself,” he said when met at his house tonight.

He said he was alone at home during the incident as his wife Halijah Saad, 60, and child had gone out. However, he was thankful not to have suffered any injuries.

Meanwhile, Padang Terap District Civil Defence officer Roshidi Kassim said the department was informed about the storm at about 6.30 pm, before deploying six members to the two districts involved, namely Mukim Belimbing Kanan and Mukim Belimbing Kiri. -- Bernama
