MACC to record Guan Eng, wife's statement over bungalow purchase tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Betty Chew have been called to record their statement in connection with the purchase of their RM2.8 million bungalow, at the Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office, tomorrow.

MACC investigations division director Datuk Azam Baki said both MACC and Lim’s lawyers had agreed on the meeting date last week.

“The time and place has been agreed upon. They will give their statement at 9.30am at the MACC Penang office located in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, George Town,” he told the New Straits Times today.

Lim’s bungalow on Pinhorn Road became the subject of controversy after Tasek Gelugor member of parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya told Parliament that it was sold below its market value.

Shabudin had claimed that the bungalow, on a 10,161 sq ft plot of land, was bought by Lim on Oct 25 last year for RM2.8mil, when the market value of the property should have been between RM6mil and RM6.5mil.
