Man abducted by 'ah long' rescued by police

JOHOR BAHARU: A man, believed to have been abducted and beaten up by an ‘ah long’ (loan shark) for defaulting on a loan, was rescued by the police about four hours after the abduction at a petrol station in Larkin here yesterday.

The 32-year-old victim was said to have borrowed money from an unlicensed money-lender but defaulted in repayment of instalments.

Johor Baharu Selatan police chief, ACP Sulaiman Salleh said three men were detained to facilitate investigations into the abduction.

In a statement here today, he said the victim was abducted by three men in a car about 2pm before he was beaten up over the unsettled loan.

“Based on information, the police conducted an operation and nabbed the three suspects and rescued the victim in Skudai.

“The police also seized several items connected to illegal money-lending activities, including six handphones of various makes, 52 identity cards belonging to debtors and 16 warning notices linked to debt collection,” he added. -- Bernama
