Missing heli: Divers on standby at Batang Lupar river to recover debris, possibly victims

SIMUNJAN: Divers have arrived at the murky Batang Lupar river to help retrieve suspected helicopter debris.

Diving gear - oxygen tanks and flippers - among been laid on the ground and the men have been briefed on the objectives.

As the search and rescue (SAR) operations spearheaded by the Fire and Rescue Department at the Sebuyau ferry intensifies, medical officers from the Sebuyau clinic have also extended their assistance to ascertain the body said to have been found.

Under the scorching sun, the dock has also become a hub for SAR officers, members of the media as well as onlookers; most of whom are curious villagers.

Tents have been erected, with several chart boards scribbled over with blue marker pens to record the search progress.

Water current remains strong, as seen from the 30-minute drag suffered by commuting ferries from the other side of the dock in Triso.

As of now, the divers have yet to make their dive, pending green light from their operations chief on water conditions.
