Landslide victory signals strong momentum for BN as GE approaches [VIDEO]

KUCHING: The landslide victory for Barisan Nasional last night signaled a strong momentum for Barisan Nasional as it approaches the 14th General Election.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the election has brought out the best from BN, showing how the state and Federal governments could work together, shoulder to shoulder, to win back the people’s mandate.

Najib was speaking immediately after state BN chairman Tan Sri Adenan Satem was sworn in as Chief Minister.

“The resounding victory not only shows that the rural heartland of Sarawak remains the core of BN support but it also indicated an urban swing in favour of the coalition.

“The GST issue used by the Opposition did not get them the traction they wanted,” he said, adding that this proved that the people understood why it was introduced by the government, allowing development projects such as the RM16 billion Pan Borneo Highway.

“This was the single ‘wow factor’ that will bring enormous benefits for the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Najib said the victory reflected the strong mandate and confidence from the people of Sarawak for Adenan to lead as the Chief Minister, apart from symbolizing the strong partnership between the state and Federal governments.

Najib added that the enduring partnership would ensure that the promises made would be seen through, and bring Sarawak to the next level of development.

The prime minister also paid tribute to the victims of the helicopter tragedy who perished on May 5 and said the contributions of those who perished will not be forgotten.
