DPM receives courtesy call from Indonesian MPR members

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today received a courtesy call from 16 members of the Indonesian people’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament building here.

The delegation, headed by MPR chief Dr Zulkifli Hasan, aimed to, among others, strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Also present during the meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes, was Malaysian Ambassador to Malaysia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim.

Zahrain, when met by reporters later, said the meeting also discussed Malaysia’s success in developing the bumiputera agenda.

The MPR members are here for a three-day familiarisation tour of Malaysia since yesterday. It is organised by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry.

Indonesia is Malaysia’s seventh largest trading partner and the third biggest among the ASEAN nations. Bilateral trade last year reached RM60.16 billion. --Bernama
