Woman assaulted, escapes molest in fast food joint toilet

JOHOR BARU: A woman endured a traumatic experience at a fast food outlet on Tuesday when she was assaulted by an unknown man in the restaurant’s toilet.

The incident occurred at 6.30am at the outlet in Taman Mount Austin. The woman, in her 20s, had gone into the bathroom to fix her hair when a man suddenly entered the toilet and grabbed her from behind.

As she attempted to scream, the burly man, dressed in a gray jacket, covered her mouth and dragged her to the back of the restroom, where the cubicle for the disabled was located.

As she was struggling to free herself, the man hit her, pushed her to the floor and slammed her head several times.

However, the man’s action was halted when the woman’s friend entered the restroom. The woman took advantage of the moment by letting out a scream for help.

Startled, the man let her go and quickly rushed past the woman’s friend to flee the restaurant. He made his escape in a Perodua Kenari.

The woman lodged a report at the Setia Indah police station at 8am.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said they arrested a suspect at 1pm the same day.

The suspect, a man in his late 20s, is believed to be a part-time staff of the fast food restaurant.

Sulaiman said the case is being investigated for causing hurt with an attempt to outrage a person’s modesty.
