Plan on regulating political funding to be completed in August

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Consultative Committee on Political Funds (JKNMPP) is in the process of completing a plan that touches on political funding in the country.

Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan, in a parliamentary reply today, said that this plan would be completed by the end of August.

"It will then be presented to the government and towards the end process, the committee will hold discussions with political parties to get their input and suggestion," he said.

Low was replying to a question by Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping) on the steps that the government has taken to control political funds from being given to political parties and on when will the new bill be tabled in Parliament.

Low said the plan would include regulations and laws needed and supporting institutions that would govern and monitor the political funding mechanism in the country to ensure that it is transparent.
