Cooperation between Umno and Pas exists, says Nik Abduh

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas admits that cooperation between BN and Pas does exist, and among them was the tabling of this Private Member's Bill on the implementation of Islamic law in the state.

Youth Pas Chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz said they have clarified this many times but some people believed that the opposition could not work with the government at all.

"Pas disagrees on this because we believe the concept of cooperation is taught by Islam. This is an example of the cooperation.

"We are thankful to the speaker (Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia) and the government for allowing this private bill to be brought forward for the first time" he told reporters at the Parliament today.

Nik Abduh said the tabling of the bill had nothing to do with the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections as the bill had been proposed even before the the helicopter crash in Sarawak which killed the elected representatives.

"This has nothing to do with the by-elections but we will talk about it then. Umno will also likely bring it up. The others also have a right to choose whether or not to do the same.

"This is our chance, and the very least, the people of Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar will get the first chance to hear our explanation on the law.

"We will use all opportunities available to us and will continue our effort to explain the benefit of this amendment until there is more acceptance from the public.

"It would not be strange if one day, even DAP were to accept it," he said.

Nik Abduh added that this fight for Islam and Muslim would bring the country closer to peace, stating that if this amendment would give a huge impact to the country.

"To me, those who object to it do not understand or do not know much about Islamic laws.

"They probably think this will make things difficult but we will prove to them that by expanding the Syariah court, it will benefit more people," he said.
