MARANG: A 20-year-old student was killed when her motorcycle collided with a pickup truck near Bukit Payong, here, yesterday.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Suhaimi Ali said the victim, Noor Shahira Maidin from Kampung Gemuruh, here, suffered serious bodily injuries in the incident which occurred at KM14 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuala Berang.
Noor Shahira was heading towards Kampung Rawai from Kuala Terengganu while the truck was heading towards Kuala Terengganu from Kuala Berang in the 2.15pm incident.
"It was learnt that following the collision, the truck dragged the victim for about 49 metres," he said, adding that the victim was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.
However, he said the victim died at the hospital at 3.30pm the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
