Family of seven in Myvi cheat death after car rams into divider

SUNGAI PETANI: A family of seven, crammed into a Perodua Myvi, had a close brush with death when their car crashed into a road divider at the North-South Expressway this morning.

The family were on their way to Alor Star from Shah Alam when the incident occurred at 4.35am.

The car skidded to the left side of the road and slammed into a divider at KM109.5 of the highway.

Mohamad Amiruddin Adli Ishak, 21, who was behind the wheel, broke his right hand. Six other family members sustained minor injuries.

The six are Amiruddin's brother Mohd Burhanudin Ishak, 36; their sister Maizatun Ishak, 30; and Burhanudin's four children Umairah Nur Eisya, seven; Umairah Raihanah, six; Umairah Aina Nabilah, four; and Umairah Nadya Hana, two.

Tikam Batu Fire Station senior officer ll K. Chandran said the driver was pinned to his seat when firemen arrived.

"We had to pry open the car to rescue the victim. All of them were sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for treatment," he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Zukir Md Isa said police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
