RM500 Raya joy for Kedah civil servants

GEORGE TOWN: Kedah today announced a RM500 special financial aid to civil servants in the state and RM250 to pensioners in conjunction with the coming Hari Raya celebration.

The good news comes after the state executive council meeting chaired by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at the Penang Hospital here.

Bashah's political secretary Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said the state had set aside RM4 million for the purpose.

"The money has been banked in to the civil servants and the pensioners," he told reporters here.

Earlier, Bashah chaired the state executive council meeting here this morning which was attended by all nine state executive council members.

The meeting started at 11am and finished about 12.30pm.

Bashah is currently recuperating after intestinal surgery.

This is the second time a sitting Menteri Besar has chaired a state executive council meeting from hospital.

On June 4, Bashah, 66, was rushed to the Kedah Medical Centre after he became unconscious while briefing a group of state Umno members who would be helping Barisan Nasional in the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election.

He was transferred to the intensive care unit of the Penang Hospital the following day.

He underwent surgery for intestinal complications on June 6.
