Police name Sri Sanjeevan as among two detained for involvement in extortion case

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MYWATCH), chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan was among two men detained for criminal intimidation and extortion at the Nilai Toll area, Negeri Sembilan yesterday.

Bukit Aman CID chief Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said the arrests were carried out following a complaint.

“The complainant states that the suspect had threatened to disseminate slander about him on Facebook.

“The suspect was detained with his driver at 10 pm last night after receiving RM25,000 in protection money from the complainant,” he said in a statement here today.

According to Mohmad, a Toyota Vellfire vehicle, cash amounting to RM41,080 and five cellphones of numerous makes were also seized.

“I urge any quarters who have been threatened by the suspect to come forward to help in investigation,” he said.

He said the two suspects were remanded for two days until tomorrow and the case was investigated under Section 506 and 385 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and robbery.
