GEORGE TOWN: An 18-year-old girl is now left fighting for her life following an accident here this afternoon.
The girl, who was riding a motorcycle, was involved in an accident after a lorry abruptly changed directions at a traffic intersection at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Sungai Dua.
The girl was unable to stop in time or swerve and rammed into the lorry.
The accident happened at a busy traffic intersection at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Sungai Dua about 3.30pm.
A poignant scene took place in the aftermath of the incident. A woman was seen crouching next to the teenager on the road, weeping uncontrollably.
The woman is believed to be the girl’s mother.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid said the girl was rushed to the nearest hospital and is in critical condition.
He said police have identified the driver as a 24-year-old man from Guar Perahu, Bukit Mertajam.
