DAP supporters hold vigil outside Penang MACC headquarters

GEORGE TOWN: The crowd of DAP supporters keeping vigil outside the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here, is growing steadily.

The crowd, which started trickling in since 6.30pm, were seen holding up candles and glow sticks.

They also continously chanted "Bebas Guan Eng" and sang DAP party songs.

Some were also carrying hastily scrawled placards condemning the arrest of the chief minister.

Capitalising on the big crowd, an ice cream seller has set up shop beside the MACC building.

An aspiring DAP politician and a Seberang Perai Municipal Council councillor gave an impromptu ceramah to the crowd, who were seated in front of the MACC building entrance.

Traffic police had cordoned off a large portion of the service road to MACC and were seen manning the traffic along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Political leaders from DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara were also at the vigil.

Also present were the late DAP national chairman Karpal Singh's wife, Gurmit Kaur.

Earlier, Lim was arrested by MACC officers at his office in Komtar.

He and businesswoman Phang Li Khoon are expected to face corruption charges tomorrow over Lim's purchase of his Jalan Pinhorn bungalow.
