Tabung Haji rolls out Haj disaster management plan

PUTRAJAYA: In conjunction with the Haj season this year, Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has developed a Haj Disaster Management Operation Plan that covers procedures on managing a crisis, with early preparation as well as an emergency action plan.

TH chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Johan Abdullah said the plan is to ensure that haj operations continue smoothly in case a crisis occurs in the holy cities.

“We will be contacting the Saudi Haj Ministry and the Malaysian embassy in Saudi Arabia to get latest information on the safety procedures that need to be taken by the haj pilgrims this year.

“This safety information will be disseminated during the Perdana Haj Course or before the Malaysian pilgrims leaving for the holy land,” he said in a statement today.

Johan said TH is confident that the Saudi government has deployed all security agencies to beef up efforts to tackle possible terror threats.

All Muslim communities must unite to ensure terror attacks do not take place by giving their full cooperation to the Saudi government, he said.

He also expressed TH’s sadness and regret over the string of attacks in Jeddah, Qatif, Madinah which took place today.

“The attacks do not symbolise the teachings of Islam which emphasises upon the sanctity of the place of worship, as well as on peace, tolerance and harmony.

“We hope that people will not link the incidents to the interests of certain parties,” he said.
