Authorities to review CBD status of Bangsar, Hartamas, TTDI

PUTRAJAYA: The authorities are set to review the 'central business district' (CBD) status of several townships in Kuala Lumpur.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said townships such as Bangsar, Sri Hartamas, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Kepong were among the areas that would be reviewed.

"In the old KL City plan, these places were designated as CBDs.

"This was a mistake made by us; we will make the necessary adjustments," Tengku Adnan told reporters today at the ministry-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

More than 5,000 guests attended the ministry's Hari Raya open house.

On the controversial revised parking rate, Tengku Adnan said it would be raised but at a rate that is acceptable by the public.

"We have not raised the parking rate for the past 40 years.

"But we have no intention of burdening the city folk. We are only working to provide them with comfort," he said.

Tengku Adnan said there were those who agreed with what had been done to address parking issues in the city, as there are not enough parking spaces.

He said about three million vehicles ply through KL roads daily.

"We only have about 46,000 metered parking bays (managed by KL City Hall) and we are facing issues involving vehicle owners who hog the parking spaces from morning to night."

Starting Monday, vehicle owners have begun to pay new parking rates, set at RM2 for the first hour and RM3 for the second hour at the CBDs.

It was reported KL City Hall owns 46,100 metered parking bays in the city and 22 per cent or 9,914 are located in the CBDs.
