'No Malaysians affected in shooting'

PUTRAJAYA: No Malaysians were affected in the shooting incident at the Olympia Einkaufzentrum shopping mall in Munich, Germany, on Friday.

The Foreign Ministry said the Malaysian embassy in Berlin and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt were in close contact with the local authorities, and had provided timely updates to the Malaysian community in the city over the incident.

“Several groups of Malaysians who were near the vicinity of the mall during the incident, including a team of athletes who are participating in the 7th Track Open bowling tournament in Munich, have contacted our diplomatic missions and are reported to be safe at secured locations.

“The ministry conveys its deepest sympathies and condolences
to the families of the victims of
the incident,” it said in a statement. The incident was reportedly perpetrated by a lone assailant.

The German authorities have stated that 10 people, including the alleged gunman, were killed and 16 others were injured.
