Education Ministry to ensure no extremist 'sleeper cells' among teachers, students

KUALA NERANG: The Education Ministry will take necessary precautions to ensure that there are no underground movements or "sleeper cells" to promote extremism among teachers and students.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said although there have been no cases of either students or teachers involvement in any militant movement, the ministry will take precautions to ensure it does not happen.

He said the ministry is concerned that militant movements can serve as sleeper cells that move unnoticed among teachers and students.

"This is what we want to avoid and we are doing some improvements to our co-curricular activities as part of our preventive efforts," he said after attending the Padang Terap Teachers Day celebration and Hari Raya open house here this morning.
