Early polls in Penang might spell doom for Opposition, says Nurul Izzah

KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier polls in Penang might just result in the Opposition pact’s loss of seats, said PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Voicing her concerns for the first time since DAP’s call for polls in the state was made, Nurul Izzah said multi-cornered contests in several constituencies will not benefit the Pakatan Harapan pact partners.

She said the polls would only be in Barisan Nasional’s favour.

“We all face that risk (of defeat). With the possibility of three-cornered fights, theoretically speaking, no one wins but Umno,” Nurul Izzah was quoted as saying in a news portal today.

PKR had so far stood firm that it had yet to be convinced by DAP’s reasons to justify the polls.

Calls for snap polls were mooted after Penang chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was recently charged with two counts of graft.
