Perak siblings test negative for diphtheria

IPOH: Two siblings, who had been admitted to the Seri Manjung Hospital over suspected diphtheria infection, have been cleared of the disease.

Test results have showed that the boys did not have the disease as initially suspected, said Perak Health director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie.

“As such, as of today, we have no diphtheria cases in Perak," she said.

New Straits Times had reported yesterday that the siblings, a 17-month-old and a two-year-old, had been admitted since Monday after coming down with fever, sore throat and cough, which are traditional diphtheria symptoms.

The number of confirmed diphtheria cases nationwide to date still stands at 25.
