King, Queen attend Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan

PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah Hamidun attended the Warriors’ Day celebration, held for the first time at Dataran Pahlawan, here today.

Their arrival was accompanied by a 21-gun salute by the 41st Battery, Royal Artillery Regiment led by Major Mohd Asri Che Wil.

The King and Queen were also accompanied by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at the event.

Present to join them were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

A total of 28 officers and 775 personnel of various ranks from the Armed Forces, police, Armed Forces Veteran Association and Police Veteran Association also participated in the parade.

The parade was led by Royal Malay Regiment 1st Battalion commanding officer, Lt Col Mohd Radzi Othman.

The parade was accompanied by a marching band from the Armed Forces and Police led by Major Zaiful Azman Zainol Abidin and assisted by drum major Sgt Mohd Rizal Saari (Army) and drum major Sgt Major Mohd Noor Manap (Police).

The ceremony began with the sounding of the ‘Last Post’ while the Jalur Gemilang was lowered.

This was followed by the recital of the poem ‘Pahlawanku’ (My Warrior ) by Col Mohd Radzi Abdul Halim and a pantomime entitled “Pertempuran di Jalan Raya Timur-Barat, Grik, Perak Darul Ridzuan” (Battle at Jalan Raya Timur -Barat, Grik, Perak).

Later, the tune ‘Rouse’ was played while the Jalur Gemilang was hoisted.

Warriors’ Day is held on July 31 each year in memory of the sacrifices made by security forces in defending the country.
