Police warn politicians, public against 'Gelombang Kuning' involvement

KUALA TERENGGANU: Nine police reports, including from the Terengganu palace, have been lodged following the discovery of ‘Gelombang Kuning’ (yellow wave) displays at four districts over the last 10 days.

In a follow up action, police have warned politicians and members of the public not to put up banners to show their support for the ‘Gelombang Kuning' movement, believed to have been orchestrated by irresponsible quarters.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman said preliminary investigations suggest that several politicians in the state were involved in the movement, which is trying to drag the Terengganu palace into the state’s political situation.

"We have removed several banners in four districts, namely Dungun, Kemaman, Kuala Terengganu and Hulu Terengganu. We have also received seven reports made at the Kuala Terengganu station by several non-governmental organisations, including one from the palace and another from an individual.”

The six NGO's were Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC), Persatuan Silat Negeri Terengganu, Gabungan Muafakat Teater Negeri Terengganu, Persatuan Kebajikan Amar Maarof Pribumi Terengganu, Pertubuhan P30J and Kelab Muay Mas Kemaman.

"The banners were displayed at recreational parks in the four districts," he said.

The case is being investigated for sedition.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing a duty handover ceremony between former state Commercial Crime chief Assistant Commissioner Koh Ah Tiam and his successor, Assistant Superintendent Ahmad Badrul Hisyam Ghazali.

Rosli also witnessed a duty handover between former acting state Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Department Assistant Superintendent Ismail Man and Superintendent Shahrum Hashim.
