(Cycling) Naim resigns as MNCF deputy chief in shock move

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Naim Mohamad has unexpectedly resigned from his position as Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) deputy president.

MNCF secretary Ibrahim Mustapa disclosed that Naim had sent his resignation letter via email, before the national body's council meeting yesterday.

"He stated that he decided to resign due to health issues; the council has accepted his resignation," said Ibrahim.

His resignation comes as a surprise considering the success achieved by track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang at the Rio Olympics, where he delivered the nation's first ever medal in the sport through the keirin event.

Naim has held the post for over 10 years and was also the chairman of the track cycling committee. Vice-president Amrun Misnoh is now acting deputy president.

Efforts to reach Naim have been unsuccessful.
