Hospital staff killed in head-on collision near Setiu

SETIU: A 38-year-old hospital staff was killed when the Honda City he was travelling in collided with another car near Kampung Chalok, here, today.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Elias Abubakar said the victim, Mohd Aswari Lah @ Abdullah of Kampung Wakaf Bata, Machang, here, died on the spot from serious head and body injuries in the incident at KM60 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru.

Elias said Aswari, a staff at Besut Hospital, was heading towards Besut from Kuala Terengganu in the 7.07am incident.

"Aswari's car skidded into the opposite lane before colliding head on with a Perodua Kenari," he said today.

Elias said two victims in Perodua Kenari identified as the driver Mat Hassan Md Nor, 54, from Kampung Kuala Kubang, Jabi, and his passenger Mohd Zawahid Abdul Ghani, 28, from Jertih, were sent to the Setiu Hospital for treatments.

He said Aswari's remains have been sent to the Setiu Hospital for post mortem.

Elias said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
