KLUANG: A five-tonne lorry driver was killed in a head-on collision with a one-tonne lorry near Talula Hill, along Jalan Padang Tembak near here today.
In the 1.42pm accident R.Parthippan, 47, was killed, while the one-tonne lorry driver M.Raman , 67, was severely injured.
Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Ridzuan Mohamad Zait said both drivers were trapped in their respective lorry cabins due to the impact of the crash.
"Despite our efforts to extricated both victims trapped in lorry cabins, yet the five-tonne lorry driver was pronounced dead at the crash site by the accompanying health ministry medical officer," he said.
M.Raman received medical treatment on site before he was rushed to the Kluang Hospital, while R.Parthippan's body was released to the police to facilitate their investigations.
The department personnel took about two hours to clear the heavy vehicles from block traffic and cleared the debris on the road for the safety of other motorists.
