Bill Kayong murder: Police seize firearms, ammo from corporate figure's home

MIRI: Police have seized several firearms registered under the name of corporate figure wanted in connection with the murder of the late Miri PKR secretary and activist Bill Kayong or Mohd Hasbie Abdullah.

The task force established to probe the case confiscated the firearms when they visited the house of Datuk Lee Chee Kiang, who is a managing director of an oil palm plantation company, at Taman Tanjung Lubang here yesterday.

Among the weapon seized in the two-hour inspection, which ended at noon, included a pistol, a rifle and five pump guns.

The task force also confiscated several round of ammunitions from the house.

Lee is believed to be on the run in Melbourne, Australia.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said none of the weapons seized were connected to the murder case.

“Although none of the weapons seized were connected to the case involving the slain activist, police are taking precautionary measures since the corporate figure is on the run," said Dev in a statement today.

He said Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor is in the midst of revoking the licence issued to Lee for the pistol and rifle.

Dev also said police will write to the Miri district office to cancel the pump gun licences issued to Lee.

Kayong was gunned down at a traffic light intersection near a supermarket on Jalan Miri-Bintulu near here at 8.20am on June 21.
