Crane tragedy: Tears flow as victim's family perform Taoist ritual at accident site [VIDEO]

KUALA LUMPUR: The family of Chin Khoon Sing, the woman who died after a crane hook fell onto her car at Jalan Raja Chulan yesterday, held a ceremony at the scene of the tragedy today.

Traffic slowed to a crawl along the busy road as a Buddhist priest conducted the 15-minute Taoist ritual, accompanied by Chin's elder brother Khoon Ying and younger brother Khoon Feng.

According to Taoist belief, the ceremony is crucial to appease the soul of those who have met their end in shock or tragedy. This is because their souls are believed to be trapped at the scene of the tragedy and need to be appeased to cross over.

Khoon Ying, 26 was overcome with emotion from the moment the group arrived in an MPV at the scene. He was seen weeping several times during the ritual.

The trio carried several prayer items including joss sticks.

Khoon Ying, placed a blouse believed to be Chin's, at the site of the tragedy.

He also spoke to the soul of his deceased sister while offering prayers for her.

The family left after the ceremony without speaking to reporters.

Traffic was kept under check by several auxiliary policemen.
