GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has launched an investigation into so-called bribe-for-home deals to obtain affordable houses allegedly involving the father of a Penang assemblyman.
State MACC director Datuk Abd Aziz Aban said the anti-corruption body had recorded statements from two people believed to have been involved in the alleged deals.
"We launched the investigation yesterday after the video (on the matter) surfaced but till now no one has lodged a complaint with us. Hence, we need to track down those involved," he said when contacted.
Abd Aziz also denied that the MACC had detained an assemblyman's father over the alleged graft deals.
"The investigation will take time and it is not easy. We are still tracking down the alleged victims and witnesses to help us with the case," he said.
Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong yesterday came out with a video clip which carried a recorded discussion on making a payment to get a state government house.
Oh said the content of the conversation in the video indicated that it was recorded last year and an assemblyman's father was seen with a middleman attending to a complaint from a person believed to have made a payment but did not receive a house. -- BERNAMA
