MACC detains assistant manager remanded for allegedly taking bribe to secure approval for rock concert

MELAKA: A female assistant manager of a company linked to the Communications and Digital Ministry has been remanded for four days amid suspicions of taking an RM18,000 bribe from a company director or to ensure the success of a well-known rock concert last August.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni after a request was made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Melaka.

The court allowed the 37-year-old suspect, a mother of two, to be remanded for four days starting today to enable the MACC to complete its investigation.

According to sources, preliminary investigations found that the suspect helped the company director secure approval for the concert grant under the agency amounting to RM300,000.

"In return, the suspect is believed to have requested a commission of 10 to 20 per cent amounting to RM18,000," they said.

The suspect was reportedly arrested around 4pm yesterday while providing a statement at the MACC office.

Melaka MACC director Mohd Shahril Che Saad confirmed the arrest and investigation under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a penalty of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, and a maximum jail term of 20 years if found guilty.

Earlier, the suspect arrived at the Ayer Keroh Court Complex here at approximately 9am accompanied by MACC officers.
