ALOR STAR: A four-year-old boy was found drowned after the car he and his family were travelling in plunged into Sungai Santap in Pokok Sena.
The victim was identified as Muhammad Rizal Zakwan Mohd Razi.
The incident occurred about 1.40pm when the family of four, comprising the father, two girls and the boy, were on their way home in Kampung Bukit Teriak after buying some groceries in Pokok Sena.
At a stretch near Kampung Telaga Mas, the Proton Wira was said to have skidded and plunged into the river. As the car was sinking, the father managed to help his two girls climbed out of the vehicle.
However, the car had already submerged in water when he tried to help Muhammad Rizal.
Kedah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Nur Hafizah Mohammad Lukman confirmed three members of the family managed to escape the sinking vehicle.
“Firemen winched the car out of the river and around 4pm, found the four-year-old boy nearby.” she said.
The boy's remains has been sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post mortem.
