DAP's Jeff Ooi arrives at police HQ to assist probe [VIDEO]

GEORGE TOWN: DAP's Jelutong member of parliament Jeff Ooi has arrived at the northeast district police headquarters here to assist investigations into his comment on Pas spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din's death.

Ooi arrived with his lawyer R.S.N. Rayer at 2.40pm.

He did not speak to waiting pressmen.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar urged Ooi to go to the nearest police station to assist in the probe into his comment on Haron's death.

The controversy surrounding Ooi erupted on Friday when a tweet, "Adios, Haron Din. Let there be peace", appeared on his Twitter account. He said the furore started when he re-tweeted a post by another account.

The tweet has drawn widespread anger, with several police reports lodged against him.

On Saturday, DAP's secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Ooi's comments did not represent the party's sentiments, adding that the party regretted the "insensitive remarks".

Despite repeated calls for him to apologise, Ooi said his legal team was still deliberating on the matter.
