Man caught on CCTV stealing massage chair coins while using children as cover nabbed, video gone viral

KLANG: A man who was caught on closed-circuit television allegedly stealing coins from automatic massage chairs in a laundry outlet while being surrounded by his small children has been arrested.

A clip of the footage has since gone viral on social media.

The suspect, in his late 30s, was picked up from his house in Perdana Villa flats in Jalan Temenggong here on Wednesday by a Klang Selatan district police special task force.

A source said the special task force team had also confiscated several pieces of clothing from the man, which he is believed to have worn when allegedly committing the offence. A few pieces of clothing belonging to the man's children, who were also seen in the video, were also seized by the task force for further investigation.

Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Alzafny Ahmad confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a dwelling house.

In the video, the man is seen breaking open the coin compartments of two automatic massage chairs at a 24-hour self-service laundry outlet in Pandamaran in the early hours of Sept 9.

The one-minute-and-10-second video showed the man surrounded by his three children, whom he used as a shield to conceal his activity.

The video has been shared on several Facebook pages, including BOM321, where it was viewed 18,000 times, and received mixed responses from social media users.
