While everyone was busy preparing for the day during Ramadan, a woman was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) engaging in theft at Masjid Raja Lumu, Kuala Selangor on Sunday.
The incident is believed to have occurred while fellow Muslims were having their sahur meal around 5.40am.
A clip that was uploaded on social media shows the woman rummaging through a bag located in the women's prayer area of the mosque.
It is understood that the suspect took money from a bag and also carried the bag as if it were hers.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ramli Kasa confirmed to have received a police report on the case and is currently tracking down the suspect.
Netizens advised worshippers to remain vigilant while some expressed disappointment with the woman's actions during the holy month.
"Be careful not to carelessly place personal belongings in inappropriate places.
"Make sure that money, valuable items, and bags are not left in the back or in the prayer area if there are no other worshippers present when going to the restroom. Thank you," user @LoveKualaSelangor said.
